This type of home construction is one of the most traditional Dominican home designs one can find these days. Its design is a result of native Taino influence, who built their homes from palm trees—trunk planks to build the walls and dried up branches to build the roofs (Techo de Cana). These homes are almost extinct due to modern building materials and designs. So, to find and see one of these bohios makes for a real treat—Thank you, Esmirna, for sharing this photo with us.
