Maximum symbol of Dominican patriotism. This is where the proclamation of independence was made and where the first Dominican flag was raised on February 27, 1844. It is now the entrance to Parque Independencia, where the remains of the founding fathers are entombed: Duarte, Sanchez, and Mella.
