A spray of water raising 10 to 12 feet is part of the humpbacks’ breathing behavior. They will breathe every 20 to 30 seconds for 3 minutes and then dive for 3 to 30 minutes. Whale watching season in Samana Bay runs from January to the end of March when they return back to their feeding grounds in the North Atlantic.
