Maria Martinez Alba was Trujillo’s mistress from 1928 until 1936 when Trujillo divorced Bienvenida Ricardo to marry her. Santo Domingo’s social circles never accepted her because she was considered a commoner and the source of much gossip. Nevertheless, Doña Maria became the undisputed first lady for the rest of Trujillo’s regime. She mothered Trujillo’s favorite children: Ramfis, Rhadames and Angelita Trujillo. It’s worth noting that Flor de Oro Trujillo also appears in this photo, immediately behind Doña Maria. She was Trujillo’s oldest daughter from his first marriage to Aminta Ledesma.
