Dominican Press Under Trujillo’s Control
These photos show a Dominican press pledging allegiance to the Trujillo regime. The news media were effectively controlled through fear, intimidation, and in some cases torture and death. Trujillo’s obsession to control public opinion grew to such an extent that an army of secret informants called “Calies” monitored even private conversations amongst average citizens.
